P&R Truck Centre Daffodil Cup Weekend Next For NSRA Sprintcar Series
By Ben Deatherage
Langford, British Columbia- The NSRA Sprintcar Series is excited to get back to racing this Friday and Saturday at Western Speedway. The historic Vancouver Island facility will be host the Daffodil Cup weekend, presented by P&R Truck Centre. It is the only time that the NSRA tour ventures into the Canadian province of British Columbia.

There will be a practice on Thursday, August 16th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Ticket prices for both nights are $27.00 for Adults, Seniors/Youth (13-18) $24.00, Kids (7-12) $15.00, and 6 & Under is FREE. Front Gates open at 4:30 PM, Qualifying 5:30, and Racing starts around 6:30. For more information or to purchase your tickets online visit www.westernspeedway.net.

“The Daffodil Cup began with Geoff Vantreight,” said longtime Pacific Northwest track promoter, George Wade, “he owned a huge Daffodil farm and his cars were always the yellow #7 and they were called the Daffodil Special. Geoff stepped up and sponsored the first Daffodil Cup race in 1961.”

Of the forty-four-previous completed events there have been twenty-five different winners while a Canadian driver has won twenty-four times. Of the last ten races the Canadian contingent has dominated winning seven while the Americans have visited victory lane three times. The last six years have witnessed six different winners on the final night.

Scott Aumen has accumulated the most Daffodil Cup wins, at five, after finishing first in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2013. Roy Smith and Jeff Montgomery are second on the win chart with four Cup triumphs. Craig Deaver and Norm Ellefson all have managed to win this race three times.

The list of two-time winners includes Billy Foster, Doug Larson, Don McLeod, Eldon Rassmussen, and Trevor Montgomery. Fifteen drivers have one Daffodil Cup win to their credit and they are Andy Alberding, Blain Sneva, Bud Gorder, Cory Lockwood, Dave Fitzgerald, Davey Hamilton, Jim Malloy, John Tharp, Marty White, Rebel Jackson Jr., Rick Brown, Ron Larson, Sierra Jackson, Vern Church, and Aaron Willison.

Aaron Willison is the defending race winner while Eldon Rassmussen was victorious in the first edition way back in 1961. While the race was started in the 1960’s there were times when it unfortunately was not ran. However, it has been held every year since 1999. Craig Deaver (2000-02) and Jeff Montgomery (2004-06) are tied with most consecutive Daffodil Cup victories.

Kyle Alberding leads the win list with two victories with the NSRA in 2018. Matt Hein, Andy Alberding, and Aaron Willison have one triumph to their credit. Locally at Western Speedway main event winners include Aaron Willison, Randy Price, and Guy Barrett.
