Saturday August 4th Rory Price Memorial Next For NSRA Series; Practice Friday Night
By Ben Deatherage
Monroe, Washington- The biggest pavement Sprint Car race in the Evergreen state of Washington, and for that matter in western North America, will take place this Saturday, August 4th at Evergreen Speedway. The Monroe, Washington 3/8-mile oval hosts the Rory Price Memorial with the NSRA Winged Sprintcar Series, co-sanctioned with WESCO Series, for their only visit at the facility in 2018. An open practice will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, the 3rd.

This race is run in honor of the late Rory Price who competed in dirt and pavement Sprint Cars, 410 or 360 Sprints, both Winged and Non-Winged, and even Midgets. He was tragically lost during Non-Wing Sprint Car test at Evergreen in March of 2006. There has been a race ran in his honor every year since his passing. During his driving tenure, he piloted cars for well-known Sprint Car owners such as Wil Kennedy, Kelly Kahne, Roy Rasmussen, Gordy Serwold, and his father (Dard) to mention a few.

“All the sponsors have a special connection to Rory either from when he raced or since we started this event,” commented co-organizer of the Rory Price Memorial committee, Brian Rex, “we’ve tried our very best to make this one of the biggest races in the nation as far as paved Sprint Cars are concerned.”

In twelve previous Rory Price Memorials there have been six different winners. Matt Hein has managed to win seven of them with Aaron Willison, Craig Deaver, Jake Mann, Drew Church, and Randy Bauer all victorious once. Willison is the defending race winner, and series champion, while Hein will be making his return after a injury prevented him from participating in last year’s edition.

“We want to continue this event for years to come and keep the Price family/friends involved. We also would like to let folks know that we are still raising a college fund for Rory’s daughter Taylor.”

On the NSRA sides of things it’s been Oregon domination in the four completed events in 2018. Kyle Alberding has two wins to his credit thus far while his father, Andy, and Matt Hein are drivers who have won once so far during the current campaign.

While it will be the first time for the NSRA competitors on the recently repaved oval the WESCO group has been there once earlier in the season. Cameron Neisinger managed to achieve the win on June 16th. They were supposed to compete on April 7th but that date was lost to weather.

Front Gates open at 4:00 PM with Opening Ceremonies starting around 6:00. Tickets are Adults $20.00, Seniors (62+) $15.00, Youths (11-17) $10.00, Military (with ID) FREE, and Kids (10 and Under) FREE. For more information log on to www.evergreenspeedway.com .
