Victoria, British Columbia- The Royal Purple NSRA Winged Sprintcars would roll into Western Speedway on Friday, August 11th.  It would be the first of two nights of the coveted P&R Truck Centre Daffodil Cup.  Sixteen drivers from the Canadian province of British Columbia, as well as the American states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, would compete for the Roy Smith Memorial trophy.

Duane Zeinstra would get the lead on the opening start of the main event.  The Black Creek driver would maintain the coveted position for quite some time before being overtaken on lap ten.  The driver to make the pass on him would be Victoria’s Mike Haslam, racing for car owners Rod and Gord Rendle.

However, Haslam would lose the first position shortly after obtaining it.  Aaron Willison would get around Halsam and started to cruise away from the field.  Willison, from Langley, had a brief challenge towards the end but he would keep all challengers in check.

Aaron Willison would cross the wire in first place, hoisting the Roy Smith Memorial trophy in victory lane, and became the first repeat winner of the 2017 campaign with the Royal Purple NSRA Winged Sprintcars.  He also became the third consecutive, and different, Canadian to win during the Daffodil Cup weekend after Robbie Price and Jeff Montgomery won last season.

Matt Hein, from Roseburg, Oregon and making his return after sustaining an injury at the first night of the Diamond Cup in June, was an impressive runner-up followed by Mike Haslam in third.  The balance of the top five would consist of Langford native Jeff Montgomery, in fourth, and fifth finishing Duane Zeinstra.

Earlier in the evening Aaron Willison set fast time of the night while Matt Hein was victorious in the trophy dash.  Heat races were won by Jeff Montgomery and Willison.

The P&R Truck Centre Daffodil Cup continues tomorrow at Western Speedway for the second and final night.  The winner of the final leg will receive the Ross Rocket Memorial trophy and will etched in Daffodil Cup lore.
