Roseburg, Oregon- The Royal Purple NSRA Winged Sprints got their motors finally running on Saturday, May 20th, at Douglas County Speedway for the Rick Brown Super Shoe.  It would be the first time the series had visited the Roseburg facility since 2015.  The event drew twenty-two entries from the states of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

During the feature, after an early race yellow on the initial start, the second attempt to get a lap completed would see Tony Thomas leading the charge over the rest of the field.  The Mill City veteran would hold onto the position until he was overtaken on lap thirteen by Cameron Neisinger.  Neisinger, hailing from Everett, Washington had a comfortable distance ahead of the rest of the pack until a lap twenty-two stoppage bunched the field right up.

With the Royal Purple NSRA Winged Sprintcars utilizing double file restarts, until ten laps or less are left, it allowed Winston’s Kyle Alberding, driving for Art Holte, a perfect opportunity to seize the top positon on the restart.  Alberding would cruise along and build a sizable lead however as a few laps remained Neisinger managed to reel him back in and was within striking distance late.

Despite Neisinger cutting into Alberding’s lead Kyle would hold the competition off to record his first series win and become the fifth different winner of the Rick Brown Super Shoe.  What was even more special was the fact that he was able to win the race that was ran in tribute to his grandfather, Rick Brown, who joined him in victory lane to celebrate.

Kyle Alberding’s father, Andy also from Winston, would pass Cameron Neisinger at the line to record second.  Langley, British Columbia chauffeur Aaron Willison got fourth followed by Tristen Spiers, of Adrian, for car owners Joey and Sarah Moore, in fifth.  Neisinger was the highest finishing Sportsman car.

Kyle Alberding not only would set fast time of the night but he would also set a new track record at 12.212.  Heat race victories went to Tony Thomas, Redmond, Washington’s Thomas Richardson, and Ron Larson of Quesnel, British Columbia.  Cameron Neisinger won the Sportsman trophy dash while Roseburg ace Matt Hein was victorious in the fast dash.

The Royal Purple NSRA Winged Sprintcars return on Friday June 2nd and Saturday the 3rd for the annual Diamond Cup at Meridian Speedway in Idaho.  The weekend is sure to attract some of the top tier talent from around the region and beyond and is one event you don’t want to miss.
