Royal Purple NSRA Series Take On Royal Purple King of the Wing National Sprint Series This Weekend; Evergreen Speedway On Saturday July 23rd And Wenatchee Valley Super Oval On Sunday The 24th

By Ben Deatherage

Monroe, Washington- The regulars of the Royal Purple NSRA Sprint Series will be put to the ultimate test this coming weekend.  The best Pavement Sprint drivers in the Pacific Northwest will defend their home turf against the cars and stars of the Royal Purple King of the Wing National Sprint Series.  Things get started at Monroe, Washington’s Evergreen Speedway, for the Rory Price Memorial, on Saturday, July 23rd and concludes Sunday, the 24th, at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, in Wenatchee, for the Thunder In The Valley.

The Rory Price Memorial is offering a whopping $10,000.00 to win on Saturday night.  This race is run in honor of the late Rory Price who competed in dirt and pavement Sprint Cars, 410 or 360 Sprints , both Winged and Non-Winged, and even Midgets.  He was tragically lost during Non-Wing Sprint Car test at Evergreen in March of 2006.  There has been a race ran in his honor every year since his passing.  During his driving tenure, he piloted cars for well known Sprint Car owners such as Wil Kennedy, Kelly Kahne, Roy Rasmussen, and Gordy Serwold to mention a few.

Matt Hein has dominated the recent history of the Rory Price Memorial.  Hein has six total wins at the RPM including an impressive five in a row.  Craig Deaver, Drew Church, Jake Mann, and Randy Bauer each have one win a piece.

Last year Evergreen hosted two consecutive races over the weekend but on two different tracks.  Matt Hein won on the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday, which was billed as the Rory Price Memorial, while the Sunday portion was conducted on the 5/8-mile track and was just a Royal Purple King of the Wing National Sprint Series event.  Ron Larson was the winner of  the Sunday show.

Locally in 2016 Evergreen has had just one local Sprint Car with the Washington Econo Sprint Association, or WESCO, group.  Randy DuBois was the winner on July 9th.  The track is hosting several additional Open Wheel divisions and is expecting in the neighborhood of 60-80 entries between all the classes.

On Saturday Front Gates open at 4:00 PM while Racing starts around 6:00.  Adult tickets are $25.00 and Youths (6-15) are $10.00.  More information can be found at www.evergreenspeedway.com.

Wenatchee has hosted one Sprint Car event and that was under the WESCO banner this season.  Garrett McLees would be victorious in the April 30th main event.  The quick ¼-mile oval has hosted a handful of WESCO races each year for the past several years but it has been some time since the Royal Purple NSRA Series last paid a visit.  It will be the first time ever the Royal Purple King of the Wing National Sprint Series has attended the central Washington facility.

On Sunday Front Gates open at Noon with Racing scheduled to get kicked off around 1:30 PM.  Tickets are Adults $20.00, Students/Seniors $18.00, Kids (6-12) $8.00, and Family Pass (2 Adults and up to 4 Kids) $50.00.  For more information visit wvso.com.

With five races in the books, this season the Royal Purple King of the Wing National Sprint Car Series has had a different winner at each event. Tory DeCaire, Ron Larson, Bobby Santos III, and Jason Conn were the four drivers to have won before entering the Pacific Northwest.  Davey Hamilton Jr. would get the job done on Thursday night at Idaho’s Meridian Speedway and won the Pink Lady Classic. The Royal Purple NSRA Sprint Series has managed to complete four events. Matt Hein has won the last two shows while Bryan Warf and Robbie Price have one victory each.
